Potion Blaster
The Idea
Potion Blaster is a top-down shooter about throwing various kinds of potions to defend yourself against an army of shades trying to overcome the player.
You control an alchemist, moving and throwing potions to eliminate relentless waves of shades and shadows. Use the keyboard to move swiftly and dodge enemies, while aiming and throwing potions. Success hinges on agility, strategic potion use, good and rapid throwing/aiming, to survive the increasingly challenging waves of dark adversaries.
The Tools
- Godot version 4.2.2 for programming
- Piskel for all graphics and UI
- Ableton Live for all music and SFX
The Vision
The game features a minimalistic pixel art style to highlight the themes "Shadow" and "Alchemy." Dark, muted tones contrast with vibrant potion effects, highlighting the battle between light and dark. The alchemist himself, named “Bipes”, is somewhere between the two: the anti-neon variant of orange, brown.
The Tune
The music composition for this game blends eerie, atmospheric sounds with mystical and mysterious motifs. The score could feature haunting, ambient tones and subtle, rhythmic pulses to create a sense of tension and foreboding. Dark, low-frequency drones and spectral melodies would evoke the shadowy theme, while ethereal, shimmering elements and occasional melodic flourishes would represent the alchemical aspect. The music might also incorporate unconventional instruments or synthesized sounds to enhance the game's otherworldly atmosphere, shifting dynamically with the intensity of gameplay to heighten the overall experience.

My highscore is 25... I don't know if I should be proud or embarrassed
This was a really great concept! I would love for the movement to be a bit more responsive, it felt a little bit slow. That being said, I had fun playing, great work!
Thanks for your comment, glad you had fun :-) and well noted !
I enjoyed playing this, the music was quite immersive and even if the gameplay felt a bit short and challenging I would really like to see what it can offer in the future. Thanks for sharing this!
